Never judge a sexy man by his cover.
Detective Beau Williams is hard-working, dedicated, and professional. He enjoys the finer things in life, but with his heavy caseload that includes what Beau suspects is a new serial killer, he has no time to enjoy much of anything. What the tall redhead needs is someone to shake him up a little.
Investigative Technician Austin Kent never met a snarky joke he didn’t like – or a set of stairs that couldn’t trip him up. One night after a devastating episode at work, Austin sees something else he likes – the handsome detective he’s seen around the station whom he’s always wondered about. But after he makes a drunken fool of himself in front of Detective Williams, he’s sure there’s no hope.
Beau and Austin’s worlds collide right away when Austin is sent to pick up some evidence at the station. Amidst a myriad of twists and turns in the troubling serial killer style murders of Vegas conventioneers, Austin and Beau discover that there’s more to the other than they’d originally thought. There might even be more they’d like to give – unless the killer has the final say.

So fucking good.
Austin caressed Beau’s forehead, gently carding his fingers through his hair. Beau had his arm draped across Austin’s upper thighs, his hand tucked underneath the outer one in an embrace. Austin massaged Beau’s shoulder, his motions light, letting his fingertips trail softly over Beau’s freckled skin. It was startling how natural the gesture was. His thoughts scrambled to come up with another time in his adult history when he’d wanted to touch a man so lovingly after an encounter. He shut them down. He didn’t want to dwell, didn’t want to take away from the peaceful sensation he’d dropped into.
Beau’s voice rumbled through his lower body. “I enjoyed that a lot. Enjoyed you.”
Shit. Here comes the talking part.
He tensed, not sure what to expect from the aftermath. It wasn’t as if he could say, ‘that was awesome, call me sometime’, yank on his jeans then go home. There wasn’t a game plan he’d ever used that could help Beau out. Beau was stuck with him.
“Yeah?” His voice had come out shakier than he’d planned.
Beau released him, but instead of getting up – getting away from him – he scooted so they were eye level. He rolled on his side, facing Austin. He tugged him close.
Beau didn’t appear worried, fearful or agitated. Simply curious.
“Wrong?” Austin chuckled. “What could possibly be wrong about getting such a mind-blowing hummer?”
He cleared his throat then darted his eyes to a spectacularly ugly print on the wall over Beau’s shoulder. It was done in varying shades of brown and deep orange. He couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be a rendering of large rock formations on the desert landscape or a horribly misshapen figure lost in a barren wilderness. Either way, it was hideous.
He dragged his gaze back to Beau, biting his lower lip. He was so close that it wouldn’t take much for them to rub noses. Maybe too close. Beau tightened his embrace. It wasn’t clingy, more reassuring. He wanted Beau to reassure him but he didn’t know how to ask for it.
“Just in case you were wondering, this isn’t one of the times to joke.” Beau gave him a peck on the end of his nose then smiled. “Tell me what’s wrong. Anything you say is okay.”
Austin couldn’t believe that a lover was giving him permission to say dumb shit out loud. They were usually begging for him to shut the fuck up.
