Giveaway and Interview: For Mac by Brynn Stein

Author Name: Brynn Stein

Book Name: For Mac

Release Date: May 29, 2015

Branson Farrell lost his parents when he was thirteen, and for the last ten years his brother, Mac, eight years his senior, has taken care of him. But Mac’s love came at a price. Both brothers were raised to believe being gay was completely unacceptable, and Branson has almost convinced himself he can be what Mac expects. When he looks at a man in a bar and Mac notices, Mac drags him off in horror.

Mac’s distress and disgust leads to a car accident that leaves Branson injured and Mac in a coma. Branson heals and stays at Mac’s bedside, but when Mac doesn’t recover, he is moved to a long-term care facility. There, Branson meets openly gay, confident, and attractive Liam Sullivan. Liam stirs feelings Branson thought he’d rid himself of, and to honor his brother, Branson fights tooth and nail against his attraction. When the cost of denying who he is becomes too high, Branson must battle a lifetime of hatred that’s been beaten into his body and mind to try for something of his own.

About the author:

I’ve always loved to write and wrote fan fiction before I even knew what it was called. When computers came along, with online communities and places to publish fan fiction, I wrote even more. Then a friend convinced me to try to have an altered version of an AU (alternate universe, meaning all but original) published. My manuscript was accepted and now I’m a ‘published author’.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Brynn Stein author of For Mac
Hi Brynn, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about your current book.

Tell us about your book.

For Mac is about Branson Farrell mostly. He was raised by his brother, Mac, after his parents died. Both his parents and then Mac were adamantly against homosexuality. Branson idolized his brother when he was little, and once their parents died he was completely dependent on him. Between emotional and some physical abuse on Mac’s part, Branson learns to try to be what Mac wants him to be. He tries to suppress the side of himself that Mac wouldn’t like.
There’s an accident, though, and Mac ends up in a coma. Branson tries to be strong, dealing with his own injuries, Mac’s business as well as his own work, and sitting by Mac’s bedside trying not to think about the very real possibility that he might not get his brother back.
Enter Liam Sullivan, Mac’s nurse at the long term care facility, and an instant attraction to him on Branson’s part and it’s all just too much for Branson to handle. He tailspins pretty badly for a while. Fortunately he has some pretty supportive friends, and of course, Liam.
How difficult was it to get into the main character’s head?
Pretty difficult at times. Not as difficult as I would have liked at others. I’ve experienced tailspins somewhat like some of Branson’s so I had that part down pat. I also watched people I cared about go through similar situations with their families, in one case not successfully, so that part came too easily too. But Branson is kind of all over the board sometimes, as he’s coming to terms with everything, and it was hard to deal with, if not hard to envision.
Is this book a standalone or do you plan on visiting it again?
                Definitely a standalone.

Why did you choose to write M/M stories?

I started out writing fanfiction but always leaned toward fandoms with two strong male leads who had a really close relationship. It was easy to go from close to CLOSE. I don’t always put a lot of sex scenes in my books, though For Mac has more than most after Branson finally gets his act together, but the close relationship is always there.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Real situations I’ve experienced or heard about, and real people I know or know of, all mixed up until unrecognizable as specific people or events. Sometimes whole books come from little things. Through the Years came almost full blown from a thirty second interaction between two men in a hospital waiting room.
