The contracts are in the mail, and I am happy to finally be able to announce the sequel to Hitting Black Ice, Send Lawyers, Guns, and Roses, has been accepted by Loose Id. Here’s a little blurb (which is a work in progress):
The tiny Caribbean island of Saba is gorgeous, the first to have marriage equality, and the Sabans are the nicest people on earth. When Hunter and Alex are given the vacation of a lifetime there, it’s just what the doctor ordered. Or is it?
Their new friends Orfeo and Max, and Max’s sister Talisha, share a troubling secret. Alex and Hunter want to help. As a hurricane bears down on them, a dead body surfaces, and a purple backpack loaded with stolen jewels brings a pair of dangerous men to the island.
Alex would rather poke his own eyes out with a pointy stick than call on his old enemy Nick Truman for help, but he’d also do anything to keep Hunter safe…
For those readers of Hitting Black Ice who loved Nick, he has a brief appearance in this story. For those who hated him, he only has a brief appearance in this story. 😉
The setting and some of the story was inspired by the old Bogart/Becall movie Key Largo, one of my favorites.
And who knows, maybe we’ll get some stories out of Orfeo and Max in the future?
In the early days of Hitting Black Ice, my brilliant editor pointed out a fatal flaw in the antagonist Nick’s character—he was too likable. His dry sarcasm was funny, and we like funny. She proposed I sand him down (nooo! all my beautiful snark!) or save him.
His story percolated all through 2015, and I knew he needed more than one book, maybe three, to complete his redemption arc. But I envision shorter books, not an 80,000 word single novel, so maybe 150,000 words total? Who knows—he’s been talking since January 1 and hasn’t stopped.
What else is going on?
The renaissance romantic suspense Ardent (previously Ardent Fire) has been submitted to Dreamspinner Press.
Thianna D. Durstan has created a multiauthor story universe called The Order of the Black Knights, an action/suspense/mm romance series. This is also through Dreamspinner. I was excited by the concept and so my knight William has joined this wild bunch. I doubt you’ll see the novel published in 2016, though.

Stories I’d like to get to include the gypsy steampunk Burning Sky. A sequel to Ardent for Benedetto and Morello, and perhaps—no, definitely—Falcone, another character in search of redemption. Maybe even the broody Count Alfieri will have a story to tell me.
And speaking of Counts, the characters from If I Were Fire also have more to say.
I can’t even touch the stories under all of these, some of which are only concepts or a couple of characters talking…
So on the weekends, I hop along with a number of blogs, Thianna Durstan’s Seductive Studs, Charlie Descouteaux’s Rainbow Snippets, and on Sundays Weekend Writing Warriors. There you’ll find bits and pieces of these stories, and the links to some incredible authors and their stories. 😀
