Will hearts soar when pigs fly?
Alex’s job working for his family-owned radio station once took him all over the city reporting on major events—until the accident. His scars, both physical and emotional, cause him to withdraw into a self-imposed, semi-reclusive lifestyle. When his dad requests that he go to the world’s largest hot air balloon festival, he has to find the courage to break his isolation. Now he needs to find the courage to trust and love again.
Jeff had already been planning a move to Albuquerque when he lost his home, parents, and dog to a wildfire in California. To begin his new life, he agrees to help his sister and brother-in-law with their balloon at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Now he’s seen pigs fly and bees kissing, but will he find the love he’s been searching for?

After they’d chatted for a few minutes, Alex turned off the recorder and glanced at Jeff. “Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Will you be going to any of the Music Fiesta events next weekend?”
“I’m not sure I’ll be able to. I’m mainly here for Cindy and Danny. My new job doesn’t start until after the Fiesta ends, and I didn’t know about all the extra events. Cindy just wanted me to come along and help set up the balloon in the mornings. So I hadn’t made any plans.”
Alex brightened up. “I have an extra ticket.” Then his face flushed bright red. “Um, if you want to go, that is.”
Jeff protested, “I couldn’t. I didn’t mention that to get anything from you. I’m just in the process of moving here, and I—”
Alex held up his rainbow-covered hand to stop him. “Hear me out first, please. The radio station gets freebie tickets to all the events as part of our advertising packages. We can’t give away a single ticket; we give them away in pairs. I usually get one set, but I don’t have anyone to take with me. My extra will go to waste if you don’t want to use it. How about you think of it as my way of welcoming you to our city?”
Jeff wasn’t sure if Alex was asking in a platonic sense, or if he considered the invitation as a date, but Jeff was happy to make a new friend in town. Secretly thrilled that Alex didn’t have someone else to share the tickets with, he finally said, “That would be nice. Thank you.”
“Great. I’ll save you a ticket for the big show. The morning performance will be a local barbershop quartet.”
“That sounds good. Where do they hold the concerts?” He really wasn’t interested in the quartet, but he wanted to see more of Alex. If he had to go to a few concerts to make that happen, then that’s just what he’d do.
