Cal Foster has sworn off men. He is never going to date anyone again, ever. But as the saying goes, never say never, because Josh Gibson isn’t just anyone. Jena Wade brings you all the passion you could hope for in her hot, new contemporary romance, Mechanically Inclined.

Excerpt:

Josh rolled up the sleeves on his teal dress shirt and flipped his tie over his shoulder. He took a deep breath. This needed to go fast if he was going to show up on time. Was there a certain way to take the bolts off? He couldn’t remember. It’d been a long time since he’d actually had to do this. It looked easy enough.

Ten minutes later, Josh had four of the five lug nuts off. The last one was causing him trouble. He placed the tire iron on the bolt and pulled with as much strength as he had left in him. It didn’t budge.

“Need some help with that?”

“Christ!” Josh let go of the iron and landed on his butt in the dirt. “Holy hell, man. Where’d you come from?” Maybe it was because Josh was on his back, but the guy looked huge. He loomed over him. A full dark beard covered his face, and his white button-down shirt stretched tight across his wide chest and muscular arms.

Did he hit his head when he fell? His dream man stood before him. Josh had been looking for the perfect man all his life. What were the odds that Mr. Right would show up on a country road in the middle of a cornfield?

Excerpt:

“Hey.” Luke’s deep voice sent another shiver skittering up Sean’s back. “Miss me?”

“Always.” Sean turned and buried his face in Luke’s neck. As he inhaled deeply he heard Luke do the same. Soft lips nuzzled at him moving down until they found the mating mark he’d placed on him when they’d bonded. Luke’s tongue laved over the spot dragging a low moan out of Sean. It always hit him deep in his belly when Luke paid attention to the sensitive area. “How did it go?” he murmured as Luke continued his ministrations.

“Crappy. The guy was a pain in the ass” Luke said with a quirk of his lips. “I mean literally. Dude had this big old set of stone thrones like something out of a movie and he offered me the one next to him. My ass went numb about twenty minutes in.”

Sean waggled his eyebrows. “Maybe I’ll have to massage it later bring it back to life.”

“Ass CPR?” Luke snorted. “Sounds…interesting.”

INTERVIEW WITH SKYE JONES

Thanks so much for hosting me today 🙂

VP: What show from your childhood would you want to bring back?

A lot of the shows I loved from childhood have been brought back, and a lot of the times it ruined them. So I think I’d have to say none. Let the memories stay perfect!!

VP: If someone gave you a free plane ticket to anywhere in the world where would you go?

Normally I answer New York to this questions, as I really want to go see New York in the winter. However, I’m cold and fed up. So right now? Australia. For some sun!

VP: Which of the four seasons suits your personality?

Summer! No question. The sun, the warmth, the long days and short nights. It’s all so wonderful.

VP: Describe your favorite reading space.

I’d love to say something really interesting here, like – the Chaise Lounge in my writer’s studio, at the bottom of the garden, by the lake. But as I don’t have a lake, or a writers studio…or a Chaise Lounge. I’ll have to say my bed.

VP: How did you come up with the title of your book?
It was one of the hardest parts of the whole book! I wracked my brains, and one title after another was discarded before I finally decided on Claimed by Love. I wanted the claimed because it fits with the shifter theme and the story.

Thanks for coming by, Skye!

Hard Act to Follow Playlist: If it Kills Me by Jason Mraz

Guest Post by Kimber Vale

Hey, all! Kimber Vale here to tell you about the musical inspiration for my latest release, Hard Act to Follow. If you know me and my previous Shooting Stars books, you know that music plays a huge role in my writing—heck my life. It’s true, Hard Act to Follow doesn’t have a musician main character, but my love of tunes always inspires me and this book was no exception.

For our first playlist post we have Jason Mraz’s “If it Kills Me.” I adore this song; I’ve loved it ever since I first heard it. Essentially, it’s a song about a guy who’s in love with his best friend. He wants to tell his buddy how he feels, but he’s afraid that if his love isn’t reciprocated, he’ll lose their friendship completely. There’s definitely this feeling of, should I, or shouldn’t I? And he’s leaning toward just hoping his BFF figures it out and he’s caught—because maybe the friend has been thinking the same exact thing this whole time, right? Maybe. Just maybe. But what if…?

Anyway, this song always appealed to me. And after I’d written a large chunk of Hard Act to Follow, I happened to rummage in my CD bin and fish out a Mr. A-Z disc and dive into this song once again. It was perfect. Still is.

Excerpt:

“Something happen between you and Kyrie?”

Greg looked up sharply. “Did he talk to you?”

Gio gave a sad half-grin. “No. You’re sayin’ enough.”

Greg sucked in his upper lip and then released it with a popping sound. He gazed out over the verdant green of the course rather than make eye contact with Gio. This was much harder to say than his daydreams had made it out to be. “I’m not sure what to do with all this.”

“All what, exactly?” Gio cracked the knuckles on his right hand.

Greg could only shrug in answer.

“I mean,” Gio said, attacking the left hand next. Pop-pop-pop. “I’m happy to help ya however I can. You gave me advice when I needed it.” He tilted his head from side to side—pop-pop—and shrugged, apparently all out of both things to crack and encouraging words.

Greg scratched his chin and bit down on his discomfort. “We…Kyrie and I…you know.” He held his palms up. Come on, don’t make me say it.

“Played charades?” Gio made the okay sign with one hand and stuck his pointer finger in the hole with a wide-eyed expression that went completely against the motion.

Greg smacked his hands down. “You’re not making this any easier.”

“So, what? It was that bad, huh?”

“What? No… I mean… I don’t think it was bad.”

He thought it was bad?”

“No!” Greg expelled a loud breath and rolled his eyes. “I… no. I don’t think he did.”

“Well, it’s pretty easy to tell. Guys can’t exactly fake it like chicks can.” Gio patted Greg’s upper arm and twisted his mouth in sympathy.

Greg had a flash of memory: Kyrie groaning while he jerked jets of cream onto his own mocha abs, his sweet ass throttling Greg’s cock into surrender at the same time. He squeezed his eyes closed to block out the image. It didn’t work.

“No. It was good. No faking. The fake part came after.”

Gio waited, eyebrows raised and arms crossed over his chest. Greg glanced up the stairs. Lance walked by, looking down at them before continuing on with both drinks in his hands.

Fuck. “We were both drunk. But not, like, completely hammered. But… he pretended he didn’t remember the next day.”

Gio whistled long and low. He clicked his tongue and turned to watch two women rolling their golf bags over to the first tee. Greg wanted to unzip his skin and walk away as someone else.

“So what did you do?” Gio said after an uncomfortable silence.

Greg gave him an annoyed look. “I went along with it. I didn’t know what else to do. I can’t believe he would really black out the entire thing, so he must regret it.”

“Do you?”

“Do I remember?”

“No, numbnuts.” Gio laughed. “Do you regret it? Obviously you fuckin’ remember.”

God. Did he regret it? He regretted the fallout. He was scared shitless he’d lost his best buddy forever, not to mention his adopted family. But did he regret knowing what it was like to be that intimate with the one person who made his stomach ache and his whole being yearn?

Greg stared off to the side, watching a blur of emerald but not seeing anything. Finally, he shook his head. “I don’t regret it. I’m just scared I ruined a great thing trying for an amazing thing.”

Blurb:

Kyrie is an actor with a physical aversion to telling lies, a one-eyed cat, and horrible taste in men. His ex-brother-in-law and best friend, Greg, harbors a secret crush he can’t shake. Before they can clear the air, Kyrie follows his dreams to New York City, but could he also be running away?

A mistake from Kyrie’s past detonates their silence, and Greg is forced to confront the man he loves. Is their new truth strong enough to support a relationship, or are they doomed to crumble under old fears? Their friendship could evolve into something a million times stronger, but maybe Kyrie’s act is just too hard for Greg to follow.

Cover Reveal for Hard Act to Follow: Shooting Stars 3
by K. Vale
Release Date: 8/18/14
Publisher: Liquid Silver Books

First of all, thank you so much for hosting me on this, the momentous one-month countdown day to my upcoming release, Hard Act to Follow!
I’m super excited to be here. I absolutely adored writing these characters and I can’t wait to share them with…well, anyone who will take them in and throw them a scrap of bread. Do it. You didn’t want that crust, anyway. It was dry and had all those yucky seeds on it. Maybe even mold if your bread drawer is like mine. I promise you won’t regret it.

Double Takes, everyone!

Character Profiles for Gio Savale and Lance Garrett of Double Takes by K. Vale

Gio Savale (description from Lance Garrett):

Gio’s always been my dream man. I was obsessed with him and his band, Three Deaf Mice, as a teenager. I used to listen to that perfect voice, close my eyes, and just let his words transport me to a happier place. And then I met him, and he’s a million times better than the god I built up in my head. Dark eyes that you wanna dive into. Sexy brown hair that’s always flopping in his face, especially after I’ve gotten my hands in it. Gio’s a guy who will always be there for the people he loves, no matter what. You need a mountain moved? He’ll show up with a bulldozer. You can’t find better than that.

1-Gio (1)

Dialog Line from Gio:

“How do you make me lose myself and find myself all at once?”

Lance Garrett (description from Gio, quoted from Double Takes):

The owner of the voice was a few inches taller than Gio’s five-ten. The corners of his warm, hazel eyes crinkled with the guy’s smile. His hair was dark blond, cut short, and he wore a close-cropped circle beard and moustache of a slightly redder shade. The trimmed facial hair framed startlingly generous lips. Model lips. For some reason Gio found it hard to tear his eyes away from them.

1-Lance

Dialog Line from Lance:

“I don’t want to be jerking off in front of a computer screen when you’re a few miles down the road—as much fun as it’s been. I don’t want to see you kissing anyone else on my TV. I don’t wanna miss you like I do.” His palms covered Gio’s cheeks. “This isn’t for you. It’s for me.”

———–

Double Takes: Shooting Stars Book 2:

Ah, the life of a rock star. Everyone thinks it’s nothing but sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

Not for Giovanni Savale.

For the lead singer of Three Deaf Mice, a band that reached its pinnacle in the late nineties, it’s nothing but an ugly divorce with a custody battle, money trouble, and now the nightmare exposure of starring in a reality television show. When his producer decides to cash in on an infamous interview Gio did years ago, and give the self-confessed bisexual rocker an onscreen boyfriend, things really hit the fan. Gio is certain his sexual experimentation back in his drug-abusing days meant nothing — after all he’s been married for nine years, clean and sober for nearly as long, and he has a son. And Gio is not remotely attracted to Kyrie, the funny, flamboyant actor they choose for his love interest. Of course, Lance Garrett, the mysterious and sexy owner of the local antique shop, Double Takes, is a whole different story. The guy has Gio planning out a future he never imagined. With the threat of losing all custody of his ten-year-old son, ghosts from the past returning for revenge, and the cameras rolling, can Gio keep his head above water and his heart from getting broken?

Excerpt:

Lance’s hand on top of his stopped Gio from silencing the irritating voice.

Gio sat down heavily next to Lance, one hand still burdened by his dinner plate and the other sandwiched between Lance’s palm and the remote. He didn’t dare pull it away, and Lance apparently wanted to see the entire commercial because he kept Gio trapped there until it finished.

“What was that all about?” Lance’s warm fingers slid from Gio’s, leaving his hand cold.

“Ah, it’s dumb. The world’s most degrading way to make a paycheck.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure.” Lance stared at something past Gio’s shoulder.

“The producers took some stupid poll and found out the viewers want to see me…” Gio paused in search of the right word. What the hell did people want to see? “They wanna see me squirm. They want to see a supposedly bisexual man drowning in the same-sex dating pool. It’s all bullshit—just for ratings.”

“So, you’re not really dating that guy?”

“No! Well, yeah, I have to for the show. But not really. It’s just a publicity stunt, you know?”

“So, you aren’t bi, then?” Lance cocked his head and skewered Gio with those intense hazel eyes.

“Yeah! No! I mean … it’s not like I…” What the fuck was he even trying to say? You’ve screwed around with guys before, ass munch.

The confused squint of the eyes staring back at him—moss-green with spikes of brown radiating from his pupils—told Gio his answer didn’t exactly make sense to Lance, either.

“I always wondered if those rumors were true before you got married.” Lance made it sound like a question.

“Well, you know how it is … when you’re young, and you party too much. Sometimes you do shit you wouldn’t normally do if you weren’t fucked up, right?” Gio gave a weak laugh.

Lance’s face was introspective and finally he shook his head. “When I was young and I partied too much, I never ended up in bed with a woman, so no … I don’t know.”

Hold the fucking phone. Something skipped inside Gio’s chest. It was nauseating and exhilarating all at once. Like a rollercoaster when it crests the top of a hill. He knew he was about to drop, he craved the intoxicating free fall, but was scared shitless at the same time.

Lance placed his dinner on the coffee table and turned to Gio.

What is going on? How do I even respond to that?

“So…?” Gio began, but then Lance’s right hand wrapped around his neck and pulled him closer to those amazing eyes, his mouth closer to Lance’s flawless one.

Lips, soft yet firm and unbelievably full, pressed to Gio’s and his eyelids dropped like they were weighted. Fingers carded the hair at the back of his head and lured him to kiss back. Or maybe it was the faint spicy smell Gio now associated with Lance that made his lips pucker and nibble against the other guy’s delicious mouth. Gio detected a hint of lemon poppy seed dressing as he sucked a voluptuous bottom lip between his own.

Lance’s tongue darted out to lick Gio’s closed mouth, and Gio opened to suck in a surprised breath. Gio’s tongue had a will of its own. It touched Lance’s wet tip and they swirled together, exploring each other’s taste, marking new territory in the other’s domain.

A low rumble came from somewhere; Gio wasn’t sure if it was he or Lance who groaned. He wanted to grab the man sitting next to him, wanted to slide his hand up the inseam of his jeans and stroke his dick into dripping hardness. Gio’s own cock was filling, twitching against the constraints of his pants with each meeting of their tongues.

Oh my God, what the hell am I doing? Nothing about this kiss—hot slippery tongues meshing and soft bristles tickling his cheeks—nothing about it was like his memories of other men. Those were hazy and unreal and this was vibrant—electric. His conscience had long ago associated those fleeting, drugged sexual acts with perversion. He had swept them under the carpets of history along with his ancient addictions. But this kiss didn’t make him think of sinfulness and mistakes. It felt right, like nothing before ever had. It flooded his senses and his prick and had him aching for more, everything Lance had.

Gio pulled away from his thoughts and from Lance’s lips. His breath came in shallow gasps that exposed him as much as the bulge in his pants did. Lance slid his warm hand off Gio’s neck and took a shaky inhalation. Gio swallowed hard as he swiped his hair back with trembling fingers. His plate was still in the other hand, tilting precariously but fortunately not dumped all over the floor. He set it down on the table just as a cheer went up on the television.

The Red Sox had scored a home run. I only got to first base, but man I was close to dropping to my knees and knocking this one out of the park. What the fuck?

Lance took a long pull off his water. Gio watched him out of the corner of his eye while he pretended to be enraptured by Big Papi jogging the bases. He had no clue what he should do or say. I’m not really into guys didn’t seem at all right anymore. Lance made it easy for him.

“Hey, sorry about that. I didn’t mean to freak you out. Just wanted to give you something to think about and you can get back to me on it.” He gave a half smile that was sexy as hell.
